Pada suatu hari, seorang tour guide sedang membawa wisatawan asing berkeliling kota Bandung, termasuk dengan jalan2nya yang berlubang2.

Turis: Why roads in Bandung are in bad condition? Don’t your government know about this problem?

Guide: (dengan logat boso inggris medhok) The government knows about this sir…

Turis: So…

Guide: Those roads are intentionally made like that. Bandung is Green City sir… so we made “biopori” in order to drain the rain water. We made it everywhere, even in the roads sir…

Be Careful in Writing Email Subject

Three days ago, my Gmail received an important email with subject “Mac” (MAC, Medium Access Control) from dearest boss to be. However, my Gmail treat it as a spam. Perhaps, the subject is coincident with name of “Mac”, electronics brand for Laptop or PC from Job’s company, Apple. So, how I know that there is non-spam email in spam mail box?

Well, actually this is not the first time. Few days prior, I was waiting email from Hendi, a friends from undergrad in ITB. The email subject is “Brosur xxxx …… “He sent it twice and both of them are recognized as spam. I would have never realized it if he did not tell my to check my spam mailbox. It’s true, those two emails are, indeed, in spam box. It seems the Gmail recognized as spam due to its

Lesson from this real story:

BE CAREFUL IN WRITING EMAIL SUBJECT. Choose subject that allows email server presume it as spam.
Check your spam box when you have time, PERIODICALLY.

Kalian ini kerja apa main futsal???

Pada suatu sore yg indah dan cerah, Saya dan istri baru saja berdiskusi dgn Babeh/Abah, sebutan bagi bos, mengenai kemungkinan2 membantu pada lab atau perusahaannya. Akhirnya, kami disuruh mengunjungi Wahyu dan Febri, enjiner MAC. Ketika memasuki ruangan, Iqbal jg nampak disana, berlagak seperti mandor yg mengawasi pekerjaan. Agak samar2, begini dialog kami.

Iqbal, wahyu, febri: eh andjas…

Riska: halooo….wahyu, febri

aku : eh iqbal, kog di sini? Kami disuruh p.trio nanya2 ke wahyu dan febri ttg MAC.

Iqbal: Ngapain? Mo kerja di VS lagi ya?

Wahyu, febri: Sip2….

Riska: Mungkin, ini makanya nanya2 dulu. Liat2 kerjaanya.

Iqbal: Sip lah…., lalu menunjuk riska dan aku bergantian,

(nunjuk ke Riska) -> riska bagian MAC

(nunjuk ke aku) -> andjas bagian futsal

Aku: wkkkk…..

lalu nyadar kl mungki calon bos di luar ruangan dan bisa mendengar percakapan ini.

Mungkin respon bos kiranya kaya gini kali dalam hati.

Bos: Haduw2, kalian ini mo kerja atau mo futsal lagi sih …. -_-”

Bad Cheese: Do not trust foods in the fridge!

Yesterday, my wife cooked spaghetti for dinner. Almost ate half plate of it, she remind me to add some cheese. I forgot to add into my spaghetti. She took it a few second before. I put some of it into my spaghetti. In the middle chewing first spaghetti+cheese, my wife realize that there is mold or type fungus in the cheese. In addition, the spaghetti and cheese inside my mouth taste strange. Immediately, I thrown it up.

Although almost the bad cheese were thrown up, I still got the bad effect next morning. I got stomachache in which there are no need to explain the detail.

We were surprise that the cheese become spoiled. We always put that cheese in fridge. Up to this moment, we are not sure why the cheese get spoiled. We only could guess the reason of it. I think the high temperature and humid air in Japan lately also contribute to this matter.

The lesson that I could take from this experience are:

Always check carefully before eat cheese, event if you always put in the fridge.
Wrap the cheese properly (close tight the plastic cover). In my case, there is a chance that we did not close tight the plastic cover. Thus, outside air can enter the plastic cover.
Putting the cheese inside air tight plastic bag is advised.
Do not trust foods in the fridge!

Again, Do not trust foods in the fridge!

When go around Kyoto, me and my lab mates also visiting Kiyomizu Dera. We go there after visited Kinkaku-ji (Golden Temple). In this complex, I see an interesting things. It’s electrical charging vending machine. Just see for yourselves.

Why my RTL’s simulation MSE curve become flat at high BW? –> Solved

Recalling previous post on MSE RTL simulation. This is my newest MSE result. However, the MSE curve became flat at high BW (i.e. BW > 24). This means that the RTL simulation result become stagnant, albeit the increasing BW.

Would anyone kindly explain this “phenomenon” to me why ?

Here are the MSE curves.

I just realized, not like process and output BW that increasing, the inputs are set at fixed BW (24 bits). Thus, the outputs performance degrade at BW > 24 bits. The inputs just could not keep up with the process and output BW increasing. Here are the correct MSE.

MSE Matlab and RTL design for verification. This MSE is for Channel Correlator blocks. MSE is calculate for different value of BW (bit width). However, the decimal BW need to be fixed at 4 bits. Thus, the fraction BW is linear with the change of (total) BW.

Langsung lanjut S3 atau enggak?

Setelah lulus September ini (insyallah), apakah langsung lanjut S3 atau enggak?

Ini adalah pertanyaan terbesarku saat ini. Kedua pilihan memiliki pro dan kontra tersendiri.

Langsung Lanjut S3

Pro:

Riset dan pekerjaan selama 2 tahun ketika Master baru akan membuah hasil riil satu atau dua tahun kedepan.
Kesempatan belajar mendesain dan membuat chip dari awal hingga akhir, dari design modeling, RTL, sintesis, layout, hingga menjadi suatu produk.
Hasil tersebut dapat dirupakan ke bentuk paper atau bahkan jurnal.
Lab. sekarang tergolong terdepan dlm bidang desain dan implementasi wireless communication.
Kondisi kehidupan di Jepang yg bisa disebut stabil.
Sensei sekarang yg tergolong baik (finansial maupun karakter).

Kontra:

Pendapatan hanya dari RA (Research Assistant). Bila hanya untuk hidup, nampaknya cukup, tapi sangat kecil porsi tabungan untuk nantinya start up hidup lagi di Indonesia.
Biaya hidup di Jepang yg kian mahal.
Peluang tinggal di dorm kampus yg kian kecil karena yg daftar makin banyak, biaya health insurance, pajak (nasional dan kota). Tinggal di luar dorm kampus bisa memakan biaya sekitar 2x.
Kemampuan bahasa Jepang yg masih dan sepertinya bakal terus menjadi kendala.
Jenuh dengan kehidupan di Jepang, i.e. kerja rata2 11 jam/hari
Kampus yg kecil -> kecil peluang mendapat beasiswa, dan kesulitan bila kedepannya ingin bekerja atau post doc (baik di Jepang/negara lain).
Peluang mendapat beasiswa nampaknya lebih besar dengan melihat banyaknya program2 beasiswa di Indonesia.
Rehat setelah hampir selalu di bawah tekanan. Lulus S1 langsung kerja yg proyek tersebut berada pada kulminasi tekanan dan hasil. Di Jepang pun langsung ditekan pekerjaan, riset, dll. Bahkan, belum sempat bulan madu bersama istri baru.
Bisa memulai meniti karir di perusahaan yg mapan.
Keinginan untuk belajar memulai bisnis (start up di bidang teknologi) yg susah tercapai bila terus belajar di Jepang. Menurut pengamatan saya, bisnis di Jepang memiliki karakter yg sangat berbeda dengan gaya barat (on good and bad way).

Tidak langsung lanjut s3 -> pulang ke Indonesia lalu apply beasiswa atau bekerja:

Pro: -> kontra langsung lanjut s3

Kontra: -> pro lansugn lanjut s3

Sebenarnya, saya dan istri sudah memilih untuk tidak langsung melanjutkan s3. Semoga sensei bisa memaklumi pilihan ini.
